Pat Swain Rice self guided natural history walks

Pat Swain Rice worked as an ecologist for nearly 30 years with the  Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species program.  She now teaches a wide range of classes on plant communities, botanical identification, and survey techniques. She holds a PhD in Ecology from the University of Minnesota.

For several years before the pandemic,  Pat led natural history walks sponsored by the Pepperell Conservation Commission and the Nashoba Conservation Trust.   Until it is safe to gather in person Pat will be providing self-guided nature walks for those who want to get out and enjoy the trails here in Pepperell.  For each self-guided walk she will tie orange flags to particular plants (or sometimes near them) with the names on them and sometimes some natural history observations.  Because the flags are picking up on time sensitive points such as flowers or early leaves  the flags will stay in place for about 2 weeks and then be removed.
